I’ve always been fond of Steve Hackett his supreme guitar work and the approach to the songs he has been involved in! This album is by far the best Hackett yet (imho). From the searching "Strutton ground" to the Beatle-ish arrangements of "Circus of becoming" with its overflow of instrumental input...great stuff.
"Devil is an Englishman" has Steve reciting over a thick tune of an absolutely grand HACKETT composition!! This is really the stuff that great prog are made of. Some might argue that Hackett has lost the "Genesis" feel, I do not think so. Actually I think that he just might be the only one from Genesis that really has move forward. And mind you he gets better with every album as does his vocal abilities. Hackett thinks in new areas, finding new musical roads to go down. Just listen to the fantastic "Mechanical bride" now there’s a theme that King Crimson would die for!!
A special mention to Steve´s guitar work (well of course!)..it is, as always exceptional, grand, groundbreaking and beautiful. I dare you, to mention any other (living) guitar player with that much enthusiasm, greatness, professionalism and sheer guts than Hackett!!?
So this album is a brilliant addition to a long range of fabulous outings from by Steve Hackett. There is absolutely NO excuse for you not to get this GEM...go get it, you wont be disappointed...promise!!! Any serious Hackett/Genesis/progfan should own this masterpiece!! GUITAR SUPREME !!!
