Review
Alex Carpani , master of keyboards (Piano, Hammond, Mellotron, Moog) and lead vocalist, have released several albums previous to this new album under the moniker Alex Carpani Band! Carpani hails from Italy and it shows in his musical direction/approach, with leanings to the great pioneering Italian progbands, but also with loving tendency and respect to the sound of ELP, Van Der Graaf Generator (as indeed David Jackson of VDGG appears here) this fine album holds 4 tracks, all of them passing the 13:00 minute mark duration wise! It is all very old school (me like) in both delivery and musical language! It is varied and at times (but not overly) complex and I find it very intriguing and a pleasant listen. Yes well you know, nothing new under the progsun, still with oldschool freaks like me, it really evokes memory and brings a smile to my face! In other words, I really like this outing with the brilliant soundscapes and the return to the progmusic style I love and praise! I am sure some of you will retaliate and think "what an old fart"...and you might be true, but who cares (I don't!!) since I am true to my opinion!! My fav tracks, in no particular order: "The Silk Road" that could have been from an ELP album, right down to the vocals which sometimes bares resemblance to Greg Lake! "Sky And Sea" starting of as a ballad like tune, soon to grow and develop like a true old school symphonic piece. Great stuff! If you, like me, love that "old stuff", then this is for you!! Notice, the language here are sung in both English and Italian.
