Darrel Treece-Birch : Keyboards (ex- melodic hard rock band TEN) currently with prog rock band NTH Ascension also have time for solo outlets, this is actually his fifth solo album.
Kindly send to me by Darrel, one can easily hear his love for melodic, powerful music and
grand themes, be it ballads or tense rock/prog tunes. I must say I havent heard all his solo works, but this one certainly got my attention already by the first track/ intro "Nexus" pt.1 a sequence (part 2 & 3) which pops-up briefly along the way on this fine release, it has a certain hymn like background with a voice-over (Darrel himself I believe) which smoothly glides into the power chord keyboard drenched instrumental tune "Earthbound".
Also this fine release holds...would you believe...among other brilliant guest musicians..7 lead guitarist´s.. yes, I will repeat that: seven lead guitarist´s along the way on this truly fine album!
This outing holds a fine balance between the more symphonic, often heavier prog tinged tunes and the light soft ballads, sometimes even stripped down to vocal and keyboard /piano...check out the beautiful "Hold On" that holds an equally beautiful guitar & violin solo!
Track # 7 " Twilight" in the intro somehow reminded me of mid period Pink Floyd, that with the addition of violin that gives it a slight folk music (in the best Uk trad.) tendency.
"Freedom Paradigm" a powerful, almost rock anthem like instrumental with superb lead guitars.
So..as they say: The rest is for me to know and you to find out!!
This album is great and very well worth your attention, time and money! GO!!
