Bader Nana is a Lebanese musician (All instruments, vocals) hailing from Kuwait City, Kuwait, this is his first solo album, a concept album centering around the plaque (the Black death) in Europe 1348. A dark topic indeed and as such the music has some very dark dramatic sequences, but also some beautiful pieces. The music here is well played and delivered. I must say that it is a (nice) surprise to hear this kind of music from Kuwait! Bader Nana is clearly a musician that knows his way around his chosen instrument! There are contributions from a few friends here and there, but overall this is Bader Nana´s album!
If I were to give you a hint of what to expect, when checking this album out (and I think you should!)..I detect some Porcupine Tree (the later edition)..some Dream Theater and a dash of Queensryche (Empire). So nothing new under the (prog) sun ?! No not really, but this album has a fresh approach and a genuine feel to it! Some of the softer themes " Rose" & " Earth 1348" has an orchestral cinematic aura. The heavier themes display said dark period and time with sinister thunder chords, heavy riffs and sometimes blistering guitar soli. By the way, in case you wonder, the vocals are excellent and in perfect English, no accent ! I gladly recommend this debut album to anyone into said bands and genre! Enjoy !!
