Review
For me the real James Gang were the original outfit with Joe Walsh (now Eagles) on guitar and vocals! However for friends of the late Tommy Bolin (Deep Purple+ Zephyr) this might be the thing! I realize fans of said guitarist already have those albums in question, but here they are together and re-mastered.
There are quite a few excellent guitar moments (listen to “From Another Time”) to be had on these 2 outings and the booklet are very informative! But honestly it is nothing more than good old rock´n´roll /Classic rock as they made ém back then, a far cry from the original James Gang trio then and if I were to compare them to another US classic rock band, it would be Cactus, though this edition of JG no where nearly as good a Cactus!! Bolin had a stint with the band Zephyr (2 albums) before James Gang and then he moved to participate on Billy Cobhams “ Spectrum” with some quite electrifying guitaring, 2 solo albums later he joined Deep purple on their “ Come taste the band” he was later found dead! Now suddenly this became a Bolin special, that was really not the original intention! But seeing that Bolin were the driving force behind the 2 albums in question and the fact that Peters, Fox and Kenner really and honestly didn’t function without a superb front figure/guitarist, it seems only right! But hey guys it is still a good and cheap (moneywise) purchase to your collection! Oh and in the James Gang/Bolin Circuits there are different opinions as to which of these 2 albums are best! You choose!
If I could choose (dream on) I would love to see Walsh, Peters & Fox reunite in a live power concert and of course an album!
