Many moons from their original output and classical albums (Black Noise & Headroom: Direct To Disc) they are back, courtesy of the excellent record company Esoteric Antenna, with a new studio release, gone are most of the original members (such as Ben Mink, Nash The Slash) bar I would say veteran Cameron Hawkins. Synthesizer, bass & vocals ! whom have been there from the very start.
Studio wise this is their seventh release and though not as prog minded as those classic albums mentioned, you still get some prog moments, some poppish tunes and even some folkier sequences thanks to the violins (2 players) and mandolin, also you get some very well composed rock songs with great vocals and ditto arrangements.. ala mid period YES and ASIA!!
The album is mixed by none other than Terry Brown (RUSH & MAX WEBSTER) should give you a hint of what to expect soundwise.
Yet again one of those albums that grow at every spin and I am really getting hooked, mind you I always liked FM but of course with year span, change of musicians etc. etc. I was a bit worried, when I initially put this release in my cd player, turned out, as you might have guessed, it is a great album in its own right!
My fav tracks?! Well quite a few actually, since there are no fillers here, so its a choice between great tunes and superb tunes, let me just mention some of the latter IMHO:
"Brave New Worlds" / "Reboot Re-Awaken" / "Children Of Eve" and the Beatles inspired: "Safe And Sound" !
I highly recommend this release to everyone into great music, despite your preferences.
This wonderful album and band comes with pleasure guarantee !!
Welcome back FM...it has been worth the wait!!
