The second album from Norwegian prog band Airbag, finally arrived here thanks to the good folks at Karisma Records ;-) I have been looking forward to hear these musicians (as opposed to hear of them) first track, the title track, opens like a mix between Muse and (mid period) Porcupine Tree, with broad chords, laidback vocal trimmings and the occasional high soaring lead guitar.
"White Walls" continues that mood, again very Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson territory though this time with plenty of high soaring guitar soli by Riis, next up " The Bridge" an atmospheric piece with soothing vocal by Asle and finally a ripping solo by Riis , with wah pedal used to good effect.
"Never Coming Home" with a keyboard intro and mellow Asle vocals...growing into a Floyd-like theme, again very good solo guitar from Riis, he must have listened to David Gilmour, excellent stuff, great tune! "Light Them All Up" a soft atmospheric instrumental with violins and vocal mumblings, superb!
"Homesick" Now...things are growing, composition and musician like, this is quite the masterpiece of this album! With an acoustic intro and Asle´s vocals, soon to be lifted by guitar (E-bow in there somewhere) and keyboard chords, softly growing theme with Hammond keys and high flying guitar. Second part, has a beautiful interlude keyboard phase, bass line, drums ....sneaking guitar...into solo and a superb one it is!
Third part (oh..yes there is a third part to Homesick) incredibly very Floyd –like (and that is positive meant) really an amazing piece of music!
So I finally get to her the famous Airbag and I liked it, especially the final part of the album! These guys are talented and I want to hear more!
I cant compare to their former work, as I haven't heard it! But this one is recommended, if you liked the abowe mentioned sentences!
Go buy this album!!
