Review
This concert recorded on the 8th February 2013 at the Tripodia Theatre in Katwijk, Holland, contains some absolutely excellent music, there is no doubt about that, but I certainly wasn’t impressed with the amateurish capturing of the production on film which to me involved too much sweeping around with the camera’s trying to focus on too many things in rapid succession such that if one is prone to seasickness then you are certainly in for a rough ride. The whole set up In my opinion was captured wrongly with far too many close up shots when a general view of the band from further back and which included the screen visuals would have been more interesting and easier on the eyes (and stomach). Also then with a variety of more organized close ups on the band members it would have been more enjoyable. Actually it is a real pity that such a jerky, hurried and speedy approach was engaged in respect to the filming because the music, a mixture of neo progressive rock with a distinctly metal edge, is quite wonderful. Thank goodness that the sound quality on this DVD is faultless, brilliantly crystal clear and very well mixed. Yes, indeed, “The Aurora Project“ are undoubtable a wonderfully modern progressive band with a gifted set of musicians onboard putting together not only incredibly exciting music with much pace and variation but also smothered with intricate time changes and much diversity in tempo building up to amazing crescendo’s. Lyrically too they are extremely interesting utilizing both futuristic, mystic and political subject matter and the delivery from Dennis Binnekade is amazing with perfect diction and beautiful intonation. The DVD has been divided into two sections the first of which contains seven tracks from their 2013 album “Selling the Aggression” and then the second section has three tracks from their 2009 album “Shadow Border” and one track from their 2005 album “Unspoken Words”

An interesting internet fact (but not confirmed) I dug out was that in 1999 the six future members of THE AURORA PROJECT became acquainted with each other whilst playing the famous fantasy card game "Magic: The Gathering," They found out that, not only do they all love "Magic”, they also share a passion for mysterious, dark rock music and with that connection they started to process their own music and the lineup has remained unchanged

Summary: From a music perspective this is a wonderful collection of brilliantly executed modern progressive tracks with a distinctly metal edge, the instrumentation is superb comprising blistering guitar, thundering tuneful drumming and excellent melodic vocals. The camera work though is very poor.

THE AURORA PROJECT is Dennis Binnekade (vocals), Remco van den Berg (lead guitar), Joris Bol (drums), Marcel Guyt (keyboards), and Marc Vooijs (guitar) and Rob Krijgsman (bass).

All bands/artists and all moozik aficionados, if you have not joined Planet Of Prog on their fb page yet you might want to join them here too. They are unbiased, very honest sharing the music from the greats to the indie starting artists and what I love the most about them, there is no negativity (you'll not find any pompous selfrightous know it all full of know better and how sermons on their reviews) no matter who you are, all their reviews the bands are treated with utmost dignity even if the review is not most favorable, that review will be honest, not pompous and most in awe respectful of the artist's efforts. I love them, love this site. Join if you want to,I like them a lot!
