Are there such a thing as a time machine ?! To this old proghead there is, by way of music, once in a while along comes an artist or a band that bring you back or even forth.
In this case, I was most certainly back in the late 60´ by way of Citizen K (Klas Qvist) and his double album "Second Thoughts" .
Cd1:..has a self proclaimed sort of homage to the great fab four and especially " The White album" not that it is a clone, far from it, it is rather a nod in respect to said band and album.
But the whole vibe, the songs, the delivery, the production really took me back, to those wonderful days (well at least music wise) longing back to those days of vocal harmonies, pure song writing and wonderful musical landscapes! Dont get it wrong, as said it is not as such Beatle ísh, it is Citizen K´s respect and hint to times gone, very well done and there are many beautiful songs here! Most instruments and vocals by Klas himself, but with help of friends along the way on both cd 1 and cd 2.
As indicated, this old pop -prog geezer had quite a few jaw dropping moments and most certainly a happy smirk on my face several times, while listening to this masterpiece!!
Cd2 : of course follows through in that same vein and respect for the late 60´ even though on this part of the double album, I can hear more of a Beach Boys vibe than that of the Beatles, but hey thats a good thing in my book! Of course there are other musical winds and whiffs, mostly late 60´like inpsired on this fine double feature, that is really up to the ear that hear!
For me this is a keeper, goes straight into my private collection, that is after a few more listens, every spin gives a new experience and that my dear friends, is what it is all about isnt it?!
Congratz to Citizen K (Klas) a masterpiece indeed!!
P.s. Only letdown here it the cover art...or rather the missing of just that !!
No disrespect meant Klas, I just imagined a really colorful psychedelic cover, that really would suit the music here!! Oh by the way..did I mention I am an artist, also doing cover-artwork ?! Nudge nudge :-)
