Oh, this bring back memories, I first heard this band and album way back at my local music store, remember those with listening booths ? I frequented this local store whenever I was able and especially when I got paid for my several chores during my young years, bringing out groceries and petroleum on a "long John" bike (Yes I am that old!). Anyhow..all my money went to buying vinyl (singles and albums) in that particular local shop!! I bought my first Stones album (their debut) there, the first Black Sabbath there..but hey I am rambling.

This Colosseum debut album had a significant impact on me, at times where bands either were trio´s and/ or quartets with the usual line-up respectfully, no horns / sax or the likes!

Along comes Colosseum with their jazzy blues rock tendencies and kicking the shit out of that aforementioned notion !! It was great, it was powerful, it was groundbreaking and I loved it (still do !!) ..they had me already on that first powerful intro tune: " Walking In The Park"...WOW...that massive sound, that amazing lead vocal and guitar of James Litherland also..who would have thought...Jon Hiseman, Tony Reeves & Dave Greenslade went on to create even more music history in the prog realm !! As usual with Esoteric..we get a fine remastered classic album, with expanded booklet and bonus tracks (2 live tracks and a demo) and what a joy it is to re-experience this fine debut album, havent heard it for years and it is almost like a time travel, reminding me of those days and a period of time where music was immediate, honest and straight to the point !! So ladies and gentlemen this is a must own..that is, if you are a true prog collector ?! I am most certainly keeping this gem in my private collection!! My fav tracks ? Here you go: "Walking In The Park" / " Beware The Ides Of March" Which has an uncanny resemblance to " Whiter Shade of Pale" in some sequences! "Those About To Die" last original track!! So why are you just sitting there ? Go now.buy this gem!!
